Kellogg's Special K Bars

The Story

A church-cookbook staple that found its way onto the back of the Special K cereal box. Three layers, no oven required, gone in an hour.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 6 cups Special K cereal
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips

Directions

    Lightly grease a 13x9-inch pan.

    In a large saucepan, combine sugar and corn syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture just begins to boil and the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in peanut butter.

    Add the Special K cereal and stir until evenly coated. Press firmly into the prepared pan.

    Melt chocolate and butterscotch chips together over low heat (or in the microwave), stirring until smooth. Spread evenly over the bars.

    Let stand until set, then cut into squares.
