"Snap, crackle, pop — and one bowl, three ingredients."

The Story
Invented in 1939 by Mildred Day in the Kellogg's home-economics test kitchen as a Camp Fire Girls fundraiser, this three-ingredient marvel landed on the side of every Rice Krispies box in 1941 and never left. It is, by a wide margin, the most-cooked back-of-the-box recipe in American history.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 package (10 oz) regular marshmallows (or 4 cups miniature)
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- Cooking spray, for the pan
Directions
- 1
Lightly coat a 13x9-inch pan with butter or nonstick spray.
- 2
In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until fully melted and smooth. Remove from heat.
- 3
Stir in the crisped rice cereal until every piece is coated.
- 4
Press the mixture evenly into the prepared pan using a sheet of wax paper or buttered hands.
- 5
Let cool to room temperature, then cut into squares.
