Old-Fashioned Peanut Butter Blossoms

The Story

Created by Freda Smith of Gibsonburg, Ohio, for the 9th Pillsbury Bake-Off, these cookies originally utilized Hershey's Kisses and Pillsbury flour. They were so wildly popular that they became a permanent fixture on the packaging of both brands, representing one of the most successful cross-promotions in American food history.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups Pillsbury's Best All Purpose Flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Additional granulated sugar for rolling
  • Approx. 60 Hershey's Kisses, unwrapped

Directions

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, beat the 1/2 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, peanut butter, butter, and eggs until well blended.

  3. 3

Stir in flour, baking soda, and baking powder until a stiff dough forms.

  4. 4

Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll in additional granulated sugar.

  5. 5

Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

  6. 6

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are light golden brown.
