The Story

Originally known as 'California Dip,' this recipe appeared on Lipton's Onion Soup mix boxes in the 1950s and became an overnight sensation. It is credited with driving the massive surge in popularity for the 'chip and dip' serving platter in mid-century American homes.

Ingredients

  • 1 envelope Lipton Recipe Secrets Onion Soup Mix
  • 1 container (16 oz.) sour cream

Directions

    In a medium bowl, combine the Lipton Onion Soup Mix and the sour cream.

    Thoroughly blend the ingredients together.

    Cover and refrigerate for at least 40 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.

    Stir before serving with chips or crackers.
