Eagle Brand Creamy Banana Pudding

While Nilla Wafers provided the base, the specific 'Creamy' version using sweetened condensed milk and instant pudding was popularized on Eagle Brand labels to showcase the milk's thickening power. It became a staple of mid-century church potlucks because it avoided the weeping common in scratch-made custards. This specific version is known for its silky texture and stability when chilled.
Ingredients
- 1 (14-ounce) can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1 1/2 cups cold water
- 1 (3.4-ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream, whipped
- 36 Nilla Wafers
- 3 medium bananas, sliced and dipped in lemon juice

In a large bowl, combine sweetened condensed milk and water.

Add pudding mix and beat well with a whisk or electric mixer until smooth.

Chill for at least 5 minutes in the refrigerator to set.

In a 2-quart serving bowl or trifle dish, layer one-third of the wafers, one-third of the bananas, and one-third of the pudding mixture.
