Classic Old-Fashioned Peanut Butter Blossoms

The Story
Created by Freda Smith for the 9th Pillsbury Bake-Off, this recipe became so iconic that it was printed on the back of Pillsbury flour bags and Hershey’s Kiss bags for decades. It is widely considered one of the most famous cookie recipes in American history. The recipe is known for its signature crackled edges and the chocolate kiss pressed into the center immediately after baking.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 cups Pillsbury Best All-Purpose Flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- Additional granulated sugar for rolling
- 36 to 40 Hershey's Kisses brand milk chocolates, unwrapped

Preheat oven to 375°F.

In a large bowl, beat 1/2 cup granulated sugar, the brown sugar, peanut butter, butter, and egg until well blended.

Stir in flour, baking soda, and baking powder until dough forms.

Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll in additional granulated sugar.

Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are light golden brown.

Immediately press 1 chocolate kiss into center of each cookie; cookie will crack around edges.

Remove from cookie sheets to wire rack. Cool completely.
