Carnation Malted Milk Shake

The Story

After Carnation acquired the Horlick's process for creating malted milk, they began printing instructions for 'fountain-style' shakes on their tin canisters. This recipe helped transition malted milk from a health supplement for infants and invalids into a popular American soda fountain staple. It remains the definitive ratio for achieving the thick, nostalgic texture of a 1950s diner malt.
