Bisquick Sausage Cheese Balls

The Story

These savory morsels first appeared on the Bisquick box in the early 1960s as a versatile appetizer for cocktail parties. Utilizing the rise of convenient pre-shredded cheeses and bulk sausage, the recipe became a holiday staple across American households due to its three-ingredient simplicity and crowd-pleasing flavor. It remains one of the most requested recipes in the General Mills archives.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Bisquick Original All-Purpose Baking Mix
  • 1 lb bulk pork sausage, room temperature
  • 4 cups (16 oz) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup water (optional, for moisture)

Directions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a large baking sheet or line with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, combine the Bisquick mix, uncooked sausage, and shredded cheese.

  3. 3

Mix thoroughly using your hands or a heavy-duty stand mixer until a stiff dough forms (add water a tablespoon at a time if the mixture is too crumbly).

  4. 4

Shape the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet about 1 inch apart.

  5. 5

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the bottoms are lightly browned and the sausage is fully cooked.

  6. 6

    Serve warm.
